Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) affects 1 in every 1,600 children and young people*. Research has shown that prompt diagnosis is essential, because early diagnosis leads to better clinical outcomes. #ThinkJIA has been created to help raise awareness that children get arthritis, to let parents know what the signs and symptoms are (remembering that sometimes these are very hard to spot), and to remind health professionals of the need for early referral to specialist centres.
#ThinkJIA was formed by Juvenile Arthritis Research in collaboration with a range of other researchers, advocates and organisations around the world.
* "Around 1 in 1,600 children are diagnosed with JIA" is based on our latest research (https://doi.org/10.1093/rheumatology/kead700). The previous estimate of around 1 in 1,000 may continue to appear on our website and in some of our printed materials whilst we update to the new figures.
